About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to set technical direction for the AI Agent Platform team behind Hyper’s emergency response products (Motorola Solutions recently acquired Hyper).
You’ll be a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture of our most critical systems. You’ll shape long-term technical strategy, mentor engineers across the team, and own the toughest cross-cutting problems — from real-time AI pipelines and telephony to backend infrastructure and product surfaces. We expect engineers to use AI agents in their own work. But because this is mission-critical software, humans still own quality, judgment, and what ships — and as a Sr Engineer, you set the bar for what “good” looks like.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and operation of real-time voice AI systems that support human 911 telecommunicators at scale.
- Identify and solve the hardest problems in our stack: low-latency audio, streaming, telephony, LLM orchestration, and human-in-the-loop AI workflows.
- Drive engineering excellence across reliability, availability, security, and performance — defining the standards the team operates by.
- Partner with product, design, and operations leadership to translate ambiguous customer and operational problems into technical strategy.
- Mentor engineers; raise the floor and the ceiling of the team’s technical work through reviews, design feedback, and pairing.
- Build and evolve evaluation, testing, and observability frameworks for AI-assisted systems.
- Lead incident response and post-incident reviews; own runbook quality and on-call health for the systems the team is responsible for.
- Represent engineering in conversations with public safety customers, partners, and Motorola Solutions stakeholders when deep technical credibility is required.
You Might Be a Fit If You
- Have production software engineering experience, with a clear track record of technical leadership.
- Designed, shipped, and operated large, complex systems in high-stakes domains
You are comfortable working across backend, infrastructure, AI pipelines, and product surfaces. - Can turn ambiguous product or operational problems into clear technical plans for the team.
- Use AI tools daily, but you set the standard for how your team uses them responsibly — speed without compromising quality.
- Raise the engineering bar around tests, observability, code review, security, and clean abstractions.
- Mentor effectively. Engineers around you get better because of how you work.
You have strong product judgment and care deeply about the humans using what you build. - Thrive in a small, fast-moving team with high ownership and low ego, and you can scale that culture as we grow.
- Want to work on AI systems that matter beyond demos.
Relevant Experience
We do not expect every candidate to have all of these. We care more about strong engineering judgment, learning velocity, and ownership than exact keyword matches.
Relevant experience may include:
How We Interview
Our process is designed to be fast, transparent, and reflective of the actual work.
Expect four stages over roughly two to three weeks:
- Intro conversation with our recruiter to talk through your background, what you're looking for, and what we're building.
- Technical conversation focused on project you've built, tradeoffs you've made, and how you approach ambiguous problems.
- Practical exercise, either a short take-home or a paired working session on a realistic problem. You're welcome to use AI tools; we're more interested in how you scope, verify, and reason about the output than in raw typing speed.
- Team interviews covering architecture, product judgment, and a conversation with Hyper’s leadership team.
We aim to make a decision within a week of the final stage.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join the AI Agent Platform team behind Hyper’s emergency response products (Motorola Solutions recently acquired Hyper).
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers across real-time AI pipelines, telephony, backend infrastructure, and product surfaces. You’ll help influence architecture, build core product features, and shape how our team uses AI agents to move faster without compromising reliability, security, or product quality. We encourage engineers to use AI agents in their own work. But because this is mission-critical software, humans still own quality, judgment, and what ships.
What You'll Do
- Build real-time voice AI features for emergency response workflows.
Design and operate LLM-powered systems that support human 911 telecommunicators. - Own features across the stack, from backend services and AI pipelines to frontend interfaces and internal tools.
- Work on low-latency audio processing, streaming systems, telephony integrations, and human-in-the-loop AI workflows.
- Help integrate speech models, LLMs, and emerging AI technologies into production systems.
- Build strong habits around tests, code review, observability, and security from day one.
- Help write and improve evaluation, testing, and observability for AI-assisted systems.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities (with support and shadow rotations to start), backed by clear runbooks and blameless post-incident reviews.
- Ask questions, dig into how things work, and bring fresh perspectives to the team.
You Might Be a Fit If You
- Are curious about working across backend, infrastructure, AI, and product, even if you haven’t done it all yet.
- Use AI tools daily, but you do not confuse speed with quality.
- Care about quality — you write tests, read documentation, and try to understand a system before you change it.
- Take feedback well and act on it.
- Have strong product instincts and care about the humans using what you build.
- Thrive in a small, fast-moving team where you’ll have real ownership early — and you’re comfortable asking for help.
- Want to work on AI systems that matter beyond demos.
Relevant Experience
We don’t expect you to have shipped production systems. We care most about engineering fundamentals, learning velocity, curiosity, and how you think. Coursework, internships, research, and personal projects all count.
Relevant exposure may include:
- Projects involving LLMs, AI agents, AI pipelines, RAG systems, evals, or prompt test harnesses.
- Speech-to-Text, Text-to-Speech, Voice Activity Detection, endpointing, interruption handling, noise filtering, diarization, or audio streaming.
- Telephony and voice infrastructure, including PSTN, SIP trunking, PBX, and call routing.
- Real-time communication systems using WebRTC, WebSockets, RTP/SRTP, media streaming, or low-latency audio transport.
- Programming in Elixir, Go, Python, Rust, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL or relational data modeling.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Docker, Kubernetes, or similar deployment environments.
- Internships or co-ops in software engineering, infrastructure, or AI/ML roles.
You do not need experience in all of these areas. Most successful candidates will have experience in a few and curiosity to learn the rest.
